Prep Your Skin

The whole purpose of makeup is to perfect and enhance, right? But it's more than just throwing on some primer underneath that foundation to prep the skin. What's underneath that makeup plays a big role in how your final look turns out. If you're wanting to get the best possible results with makeup, there are some things you should take into consideration.

  • Hydrate - The skin is an organ made of cells, cells are made up of water. Without enough water those cells and organs don't function properly or at their best. Lack of hydration will show up on the skin as dryness, flakiness and other varying impurities or imperfections. Dry skin doesn't do as good of a job at protecting itself from the elements and roughness of everyday life and is more prone to wrinkle. Water plumps up the cells, making wrinkles less visible. Proper intake (no less than 8 glasses a day is the usual recommendation) aids in the process of your body flushing out those toxins and impurities, resulting in cleansing of the facial cells for clearer, purer skin. 
  • Sleep - Beauty sleep is no joke. With all the organs in the body at rest, your body is increasing the blood flow to the skin, resulting in that radiant morning look after a good nights rest. When you aren't getting 6-8 hours of sleep your complexion suffers. When your body is sleep deprived it goes into stress mode, causing the hormones to get a bit out of whack. Hello, impurities! During the wee hours of the night, your skin is working twice as hard as it did during the day to regenerate cells and absorb whatever is on the skin (whether healthy skincare products or old sweat and makeup). And what about those bags under your eyes? Proper sleep and water intake will help that, too!
  • Regimen - Every single night, in preparation for our beauty sleep, we need to cleanse and moisturize. I'll admit, on those days when I'm coming home tired, the last thing I want to do is splash water all over my face - but it is so necessary. You want to remove the makeup, then cleanse the face. All in one doesn't usually work. After your face is squeaky clean it's important to remember to apply a good moisturizer. (Yes, even the most acne prone skin needs to be moisturized and hydrated.) It's just all about choosing the right products for your skin. After years and years of trial and error I am still searching for that ever perfect skincare line and when I find it, you better believe I will be shouting it from the roof tops. On top of your nightly routine of cleansing and moisturizing, apply a mask once or twice a week. Again, choosing one for whatever your skin needs may be. And exfoliate! All those products you apply will do a much better job when they are reaching fresh skin cells. 

These are just a very few simple things you can be conscious of and do from home to get your skin looking its best for makeup application. Trust me, your body will thank you for it!
