Some of you may be wondering why I've chosen this path or even how it all began, so here is the story behind the name & how a spark turned into a flame.
It all started in 2015. I passed my state board exams & came out as a licensed esthetician. I had my eyes set on a few local spas for potential employment. I applied, got denied. I applied, had my family pray, never got a response. And I applied again. Every time either they weren't looking to hire or had just hired someone else. So I quit.
This same summer I got a message from a friend from church asking me to do their wedding makeup. They asked me to come to their venue & bring what makeup I had. I honestly got chills walking the downtown streets to the venue thinking, “how cool would it be if I could do this all the time?” It was the type of freedom & excitement I desired in a career.
That night I went home to tell my family how the day went & my sister tells me to start my own mobile makeup business. And for some reason, I didn't give it a second thought. I got on Vistaprint & made cards & started up a Facebook page. But we needed to come up with a name.
I'll be honest, for years I used makeup as a cover up. I wondered how anyone could find me pretty enough without it. I had acne, my skin tone wasn't even, blah blah blah. Ya know, all those insecurities driven into our heads by magazines, tv, & anywhere else society can put it.
But then I found myself. Really, I found love for myself. I knew when I started this business that's what I wanted it to be about. I didn't want it to be about conforming to society. I didn't want it to be a woman's only outlet to feeling good enough. I wanted it to be an enlightenment. I want each woman I work with to feel the raw beauty of who they are before & after the makeup. Thus, came Hello Beautiful.
I want my business to become an experience. I want my blog posts to find that young girl that doesn't know her worth. That's what Hello Beautiful is about. And of course I get to have fun experiencing your wedding day & making art with makeup on your face.
This may not have been the best blog post you've ever read (it is my first), but I do hope it leaves you feeling like there is a purpose to the closed doors, like you can follow your dreams & like you really are beautiful.
You are altogether beautiful, my darling! There is no blemish in you!
